Costumier

Emma is a Melbourne based costume maker, tailor and artist.

Inspired by art with function, Emma specialises in bespoke garments, emphasising precision and attention to detail. She delights in collaborating and producing works that serve as physically worn costume items as well as narrative tools.

Her Victorian College of the Arts (VCA) production credits include The Spook, 10 degrees, Earthquakes in London, Origami, Nuti, WOW and Mad Forest.

Outside of the VCA, Emma has worked on Snow and Rose with Spark Productions and has millinery experience with Kim Fletcher Millinery. In 2021 Emma completed an internship with The Australian Ballet Costume Department and in 2020 attended a mask-making masterclass run by world-renowned artist Ida Bagnus Anom in Ubud, Bali.

Shift Dress and Red Halter Neck Dress. Costume Design by Harry Gill
Shift Dress drafted from a 1960's magazine. This dress is made from cotton fabric and a metal zip with period specific darts at the bust and fish-eye darts at the back.

Bespoke Leather Over-Bust Corset
Design and Costume Construction Project, completed over Zoom.
This fully boned garment is made from sheepskin leather and two layers of cotton drill, black powder coated hardware (eyelets and busk) and double-faced satin ribbon. The outer leather panels feature woven seams and this fitted corset has a 10 cm waist reduction and no lacing gap

Tennis Dress, Denim Ensemble, and Shift Dress.
Tennis Dress made using a 1950's pattern and fitted to the wearer. Made with cotton fabric and a back invisible zipper.

Bespoke Tailored Waistcoat
Design and Costume Construction Project, completed over Zoom.
Featuring a draped collar and collar stand, bound button holes and dart fitted front. This waistcoat has a princess seamed back that leads into a fantail design. Made from wool and fully lined with silk.

Senior Costumier 10 Degrees

Made to the designer's specifications with metal hoops, tinsel fringe, fishing line and secured to the head with plastic and stitched bands

Happy Traditionally Carved Bali Mask
Balinese Mask-Making Masterclass, Completed in Ubud, Bali. Carved from wood, painted, varnished and secured to the head with recycled tire rubber, this mask was made with the traditional Balinese methods as taught by Ida Bagnus Anom.

Formal Gown
Draped and fitted princess seams and fully lined, this evening dress also features a tea-length double circle skirt. Made from foil printed polyester with a scoop back and invisible zipper.

Made to measure, sheepskin leather corset with black double-faced ribbon and powder coated hardware. The design features 3 layers made up of 12 panels

La Ruffiana Commedia Dell'arte Mask
Sculpted with air-dry clay atop a paper form and modelled to represent a character from the 16th-18th century Italian theatrical style. Painted and varnished, this mask is very light weight despite its exaggerated features
